Lead - Registered Veterinary Technician

Kirsten graduated from Bel-Rea Institute of Veterinary Technology in 2009 and became a Registered Technician in 2010. She joined the OVG team in early 2018.

What is your favorite part about your job? Client education and preventative care

If you could be an animal for a day, what animal would you choose to be and why? Whale or dolphin. The ocean feels like home, a peaceful place.

You can only eat one dish for every meal (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) for a whole month; what meal are you choosing? Soft scrambled eggs with an onion bagel.

Favorite dog breed and why? Any scruffy, black terrier mix. They are my weakness. They are so sweet but can have a fire if need be.

Favorite cat breed and why? A basic, domestic longhaired, black cat. They are so social and easygoing.

You're stranded on an island for a month; what 4 things are you bringing with you? My kindle, a tent, a bed, and drinkable water. I wouldn't mind a month alone.

If you had to take one coworker from OVG with you, who would you take and why? Natalie. I feel she matches my old soul, and I enjoy her company. We have been through a lot together.

What is your favorite responsibility/task/procedure to perform at work? I view myself as a helper/guide. I love helping out all my fellow techs with questions, difficult clients, and being a listening ear.

What is your number one tip you have for pet owners? It can be anything from care tips, treat/food recommendations, tips before vet visits, etc. I wish clients would respect the preventative care recommendations by their vets. Preventing over-treating is the key.

Which Hogwarts House would you be in and why? Hufflepuff. I already took the quiz! 🤣🤣🤣 I am definitely a helper.

What's your go to Starbucks drink? Iced peach tea lemonade

What made you go into the veterinary medicine field for your career? I have always had a passion/love for animals, but through school, I learned that my interaction with the owners would be key to the pets' well-being.

What pets do you have at home? (breed & name) Black terrier mix- Rufus Great Pyrenees/anatolian- Dennis Tabby cat(completely blind)- Keller ray

What are you most looking forward to in the new hospital? The increase in space. More bathrooms!!!!

Who would you consider your biggest mentor/inspiration in your career? Why? One of my teachers at bel-rea. Her name is Cyndi. She inspired me just to be me. I am not very book-smart, but commonsense is a strength. She told me early in school, "don't strive for A's, just pass with C's. Book smarts won't get you everywhere. But commonsense that can take you far."
